The Photonic Nose and Molecular Materials Research Team is a research group led by Academician Fang Yu. It comprises 16 faculty members, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, 2 awardees of the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Program, 3 recipients of the Shaanxi Provincial Distinguished Youth Science Fund, 2 Shaanxi Provincial Young Thousand Talents Scholars, and 2 Shaanxi Provincial Young Science and Technology Stars. The Photonic Nose and Molecular Materials Research Team focuses on supramolecular chemistry and colloid & interface chemistry. Using molecular synthesis, supramolecular assembly, photophysical techniques and ultrafast spectroscopy, the members construct functional molecular systems and supramolecular interfaces, elucidate the fundamental scientific questions underlying these processes, develop molecular materials and devices, and ultimately translate our findings into industrial applications. Recently, team members have published a series of research and review papers in important journals like J. Am. Chem. Soc., Nat. Commun., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater., Chem. Soc. Rev., and J. Phys. Chem. Lett., etc. At present, the team is leading more than 30 research projects, including tasks under the National Key R&D Program, the NSFC Major Scientific Instrument Development Project, and NSFC General Program grants. We have received three First-Class Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Awards, one First-Class Ministry of Education Award for Technological Invention, one Second-Class National Teaching Achievement Award, and one Outstanding Patent Award from the China National Intellectual Property Administration. Our “vapor-phase fluorescent explosives detector” and “fluorescent narcotics detector” have both entered industrial production. Team alumni have earned 2 national-level talent titles, 1 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation award, and 5 Shaanxi Provincial Excellent Doctoral Dissertation awards; one Ph.D graduate was selected for the Humboldt Research Fellowship (Germany), one for the JSPS Fellowship (Japan), and one for the National Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Program.
